Clean Air Day is June 3, 2026
Clean air is kind to our health, the planet, and to each other.
This Clean Air Day, we invite everyone to pause, learn, and take one small step toward cleaner air.
Why Clean Air Matters
Air pollution has wide-reaching impacts to our health and the environment. Not only is it linked to heart and lung diseases, stroke, and premature death, but it also contributes to issues like climate change and has harmful effects on wildlife, plants, and crops.
Much of this air pollution comes from everyday activities like burning fossil fuels for transportation, electricity, and industrial processes. But not all air pollution is caused by people. Natural sources like wildfire smoke, wind-blown dust, and pollen can also affect air quality, sometimes over large areas and for extended periods.
The good news? When we choose cleaner ways to move, use energy and live, we’re showing care for ourselves, each other, and our communities. We all share the same air, and clean air benefits everyone.
Clean air is a shared resource. Through collective action by governments, organizations, schools, workplaces, and residents, we can improve air quality, protect public health, and make our communities safer and healthier for everyone.
Clean Air is Kind to Each Other
Clean air is a shared resource. What we do in our homes, neighborhoods, and communities affects the air that everyone breathes.
Choosing clean air is a way of looking out for one another — for neighbours, classmates, coworkers and future generations. It’s an act of care that extends beyond ourselves, helping to create healthier communities for all.
Clean Air is Kind to Our Health
Clean air plays a powerful role in our health, even when we don’t always notice it.
When the air is cleaner, our lungs and hearts don’t have to work as hard. We breathe easier, stay more active, and feel better overall. For children, seniors, and people with existing health conditions, clean air can make a meaningful difference in day-to-day well-being.
Clean Air is Kind to The Planet
Actions that reduce air pollution can help lower emissions, protect ecosystems and support a healthier environment for future generations.
Whether it’s driving a little less, using energy more efficiently, or choosing greener ways to get around, small changes in our routines can reduce pollution and help protect the places we love.

Take the Clean Air Challenge
Share your clean air actions and inspire others to join in. We’ll be featuring acts of clean air kindness on our social media channels!
Clean Air Day isn’t about doing everything at once. It’s a moment to reflect on how everyday choices connect to the air we breathe — and to try something small but meaningful. Choosing clean air is an act of kindness that extends beyond ourselves, helping to create healthier communities for all.
Small actions taken today can lead to lasting change over time. Clean Air Day is a reminder that kindness, care, and collective effort can all start with one simple choice.
Small Actions that Make a Big Difference
Cleaner air starts with everyday choices many of us can practice at home, on the way to work, or school, and in our neighbourhoods. Here are a few ideas to get started:
Choose a Cleaner Way to Get Around
Walk or bike for short trips when you can.
Carpool or take public transit.
Save Energy Around Your Home
Turn off electronics, lights, and appliances when they’re not in use.
Wash clothes in cold water and air dry when you can.
Use programmable thermostats to automatically adjust temperatures when you’re away or asleep.
Keep doors and windows closed when heating or cooling systems are running.
Seal gaps around windows and doors to keep warm or cool air inside.
Cut Down on Idling and Emissions
Be mindful of vehicle idling — turn off your engine when parked.
Keep vehicles and lawn equipment well maintained to reduce emissions.
Add a little more green
Plant trees and native plants to help filter air and provide shade.
Reduce Smoke and Outdoor Burning
Avoid unnecessary wood burning.
Use dry, seasoned wood and maintain wood stoves properly.
Never burn garbage, plastics, or treated materials.
Improve your indoor air quality
Install at least one CSA-approved carbon monoxide (CO) alarm close to bedrooms.
Make sure fuel-burning appliances are installed, maintained and working according to manufacturers' instructions. Clean your chimney and flues regularly.
Use the highest quality air filter that your ventilation system can handle or certified portable air cleaners to remove fine particles that can be a risk to your health.
Ventilation can help reduce indoor air pollution including mould, VOCs and particulate matter from cooking. Use your hood fan, bathroom fan, and check the outdoor air quality conditions in your region before opening windows.
When possible, limit the use of any combustion source, such as incense and candles.
For Organizations
Organizations can help make Clean Air Day visible and easy to join — by sharing messages, hosting activities and taking steps that reduce pollution and protect health.

You know how clouds form, right?
Warm air rises, cools down, and water vapour gathers around tiny particles floating in the atmosphere like dust, pollen, sea salt… and yes, even pollution. When enough of that happens, a cloud forms.
It’s a simple process, but it says something important: small things in the air add up.
And that’s exactly how the Clean Air Cloud of Kindness began. Not from magic, and not from one defining moment, but from many small, repeatable choices made over time. One action on its own is small. But thousands of them begin to change what’s in the air.
Because air moves — it travels between streets, neighbourhoods, and entire communities. What happens in one place doesn’t stay there. So over time, as more people started making cleaner-air choices, something began to shift.
The air became a little clearer. The atmosphere a little healthier. And gradually, the sky began to reflect those changes.
One better choice at a time, because science shows that small things matter — and kindness does too.
Character Background
High above our communities floats the Clean Air Cloud of Kindness — a gentle, smiling cloud that travels wherever people come together to care for the air they share. It’s made up of small acts of kindness, and it responds directly to them: it grows brighter and more full whenever people make cleaner air choices, no matter how small the action.
The Cloud didn’t begin in one place. It formed gradually, shaped by everyday decisions:
A walk instead of a drive
A bike ride with a friend
Turning off an idling engine
Speaking up for cleaner air
Planting a tree
The Clean Air Cloud of Kindness reminds us that we all share the same air. It moves easily across streets, backyards, and entire communities connecting people who may never meet, but whose choices still help one another. The Cloud doesn’t ask for perfection, just participation. It knows that when enough people make small, thoughtful choices, the impact is powerful.
On Clean Air Day, the Cloud floats a little lower, inviting everyone to notice it, and each other.
Then we started to notice something unusual. A cumulus cloud — the fluffy kind you might draw on a piece of paper — kept appearing in places where those choices were happening. Above schools, parks, and neighbourhoods where people were doing their part.
That’s when it became clear this wasn’t coincidence anymore.
The Clean Air Cloud of Kindness became a visible reminder that when small actions add up, they begin to shape the world around us — including the air we all share.
These choices don’t just create change, they strengthen the Cloud as it moves.
It encourages people to look at their everyday choices and see them as acts of care: for their health, their neighbours, and the planet. Each shared story, kind action, or moment of awareness helps the Cloud grow stronger.
The Clean Air Cloud of Kindness is steady, welcoming, and present where it’s needed. It believes clean air isn’t something we achieve alone — it’s something we build together, one kind choice at a time.
